Mediocre experience at a premium price
We have arrived here as a family, after reading all the great reviews. Who are they kidding? We paid to upgrade to a walk out pool to the main pool. Our room was actually toward the back of the property with a side pool not connecting to the main pool. Butlers? What butlers? We could barely find anyone who spoke English, and we had to call several times to get extra towels, ask for a shower chair, or even get someone to come to our room. And the food is hardly what I would call "gourmet"- it is plentiful and edible, but not anything great. The resort is dated- looks worn. I would say this is a mediocre experience at a premium price.

Expected More
I've stayed at this resort in the past when it was the NOW and open for a few years. That experience was great, however I was disappointed by this one. The AMR properties have always been my go to but this time I was truly disappointed with the Dreams Onyx as well as Breathless. I stayed at Breathless Mexico and had an amazing experience which I was hoping for this time around. 1. The bed had clean sheets and the floor was clean but you can clearly see areas that was not clean at all. The toilet was disgusting (good thing I carry my own Lysol wipes), the couch had white stains (we refused to use the couch), the coffee table had a smashed bug on it and one of the sinks filled up and took long to drain. There were other issues but these were my main ones. 2. The food lacked seasoning and authenticity. I did not enjoy the food from majority of the restaurants. We ate from the same places everyday which got boring very quickly (International - dinner only, Silk City - dinner only and Steak house (Breathless side). Breakfast was from the coffee shop and lunch was snacking on fruit or not eating at all. 3. The lack of events on the Breathless side of the resort. In Mexico, there was a DJ everyday and some kind of pool party. The first two days the pool was quite. Dreams did have activities, however because there were so many kids it made it hard to enjoy. They also did a lot of kid friendly events. 4. All pools close at 6pm which I don't understand when you have an adult only resort attached and no activities until about 830/9pm. If you are not ready for dinner you are stuck looking for something to do until you are or till the next event. I can't say I would or wouldn't stay again but I do know that this will not be my first option if I go back to DR. Very disappointed AMR resorts.

Just Okay not Over the Moon Great
For the most part our stay was great. Only issues were that the room wasn’t ready when we arrived. The front desk staff did not follow through with having someone pick up our bags for departure and shuttle. There were also ants and gnats in our room. We rarely had the minbar restocked or it was extremely late as well as there was no alcohol in the mini fridge as promoted.
